Our Art & Design Curriculum

At Oak Hill C of E our Art and Design curriculum aims to excite, engage and provide a curious and joyful learning journey.

We invite pupils to discover the place of everyday and exceptional creativity and encourage a sense of wonder in images, objects, and landscapes around us both natural and manmade. Throughout their primary schooling pupils will encounter a range of materials and media and develop their skills in their handling and use. They will develop knowledge of how things are made, learn about artists and designers and understand how creativity can inspire and change perceptions. 

At Oak Hill C of E, every child is recognised as a unique individual. We celebrate and welcome differences within our school community and in Art and Design all artworks are celebrated regardless of skill level. Our focus is not on being ‘good’ at art but instead we encourage personal growth and expression.  To this end, we will help our pupils to recognise that enjoyment, freedom and self-expression is at the heart of creativity. 

At every stage, we encourage our pupils to be curious about different mediums, artists and art movements; we encourage them to be brave in their artworks, challenging themselves to explore, practise and refine; we encourage them to be kind to themselves, recognising their strengths and celebrating their learning journey, and being kind to others with positive attitudes and words.
