PHSE Curriculum Intent

At Oak Hill, PSHE is rooted in our vision: In love, we learn, grow and flourish.

We believe that children flourish when they feel safe, valued and loved. Through the SCARF programme (Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship), developed by Coram Life Education, we nurture the whole child so they can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Our PSHE curriculum supports children to flourish not only academically, but spiritually, morally, socially and culturally.

PSHE Curriculum Implementation

PSHE is delivered through the comprehensive SCARF scheme from Coram Life Education, ensuring full statutory coverage of Relationships Education and Health Education.

Curriculum Structure

The programme is organised into six half-termly units:

Keeping Myself Safe
Rights and Responsibilities
Being My Best
Growing and Changing

Each unit builds progressively on prior learning and revisits key themes to strengthen understanding.

The impact of PSHE is seen in how our children live out our vision daily.

In Love

Children demonstrate kindness and empathy.
Positive relationships are evident across the school.
Pupils feel safe, listened to and valued.

We Learn

Pupils can articulate how to stay safe and healthy.
Children use appropriate vocabulary to discuss emotions.
They understand healthy relationships and boundaries.

We Grow

Pupils show resilience when faced with challenges.
They resolve conflicts respectfully.
They make informed and responsible choices.

We Flourish

Behaviour is positive and respectful.
Children contribute confidently to school life.
Pupil voice shows high levels of wellbeing.
Pupils transition to secondary school equipped with confidence and self-belief.

Through our PSHE curriculum and the SCARF programme, we ensure that every child is supported to learn with confidence, grow with resilience and flourish in love.

RSE curriculum 2026

In line with the new statutory guidance for September 2026 we have updated our RSE curriculum at Oak Hill, many of the elements of our PHSE and RSE curriculum will remain the same but we have ensured our coverage is appropriate for our children at the right time.

Our PHSE and RSE Handbook (linked below) gives a clear and concise explanation as to how PHSE including RSE is taught at Oak Hill.

We have also created some useful information sheets, which gives parents a clear understanding of what is being taught during our Growing and Changing unit and links for resources to help foster and develop those important conversations with your children.
