Staying safe and feeling safe at school

At Oak Hill, we want every child to feel happy, safe and ready to learn. Safeguarding means making sure that you are protected, cared for and listen to- in school, online and in the wider world. Every adult in our school is here to help you learn, grow and flourish safely.

You can talk to any grown- up in school if something is worrying you. No problem is ever too small. We will always listen, take you seriously and help you find a way forward.

What Safeguarding means for you

Safeguarding is about helping you to:

  • Feel safe in school, at home and online.
  • Know who to talk to if something doesn’t feel right.
  • Understand your rights, including the right to be protected from harm.
  • Learn how to make safe choices, especially when using the internet or talking to people online.
  • Speak up if you or someone else needs help.

You will never be in trouble for asking for help.

If you ever feel worries, scared, confused or unsure about something you can talk to:

  • Your teacher
  • Any trusted adult in school
  • A friend who can help you find an adult
  • A family member at home.

You will never be in trouble for asking for help!

Staying Safe Online

The internet is a brilliant place to learn, play and explore, but it’s important to use it safely/

You can stay safe online by:

  • Keeping you peronsla information private
  • Telling an adult if you see something that makes you feel uncomfortable
  • Being kind and respectful to others
  • Using strong passwords and now sharing them
  • Only talking to people you know in real life
  • Remembering that not everything online is true.

If something online worries you, stop what you are doing and tell an adult straight away.
