At Oak Hill, every member of staff- including the Local Board of Advisors and volunteers- is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children, young people and adults. Safeguarding can sometimes feel like a daunting word in the modern world, so it may be helpful to think of it simply as “the things we do (or do not do) to keep everyone safe”. Creating a safe foundation for learning

For children to learn, grow and flourish, they must first feel safe. We work tirelessly to ensure every member of out school community feels protected, valued and supported. This happens in many ways- from the relationships we build between home and school, to the whole- school events to the countless small moments of care and connection that happen every day. It is the cumulative impact of all these actions, however big or small, that makes Oak Hill a place of safety.

Our key values guide this work. They help children reflect on what values matter and how they can use them in their own daily actions to keep themselves and others safe.

 

Trusted adults and pastoral care

Every child at Oak Hill knows they have trusted adults they can talk to- people who will always make time to listen. We are proud that our pupils feel able to share their worries, weather big or small. Our dedicated pastoral focused team ensure children feel secure, supported and confident to speak up about their own wellbeing or the safety of others.

Where possible, staff help children develop the skills to resolve their worries themselves. Sometimes, however, an adult may need to speak to another member of staff or, in certain circumstances, an external professional agency. As with all professionals working with children and families, we may contact external agencies- usually with your permissions- unless doing so would place someone in greater risk of harm.
