Leadership opportunities for our children
School Council
Our school council is elected annually in the Autumn term and consists of 7 members from Reception to year 6. The voting process is organised by the incumbent committee, who, after heated elections, count the votes very carefully.
The Council meets half termly to discuss ideas and decide upon actions. Some of the events organised by the committee include:
- Supporting teachers in the provision of new play equipment
- Organising a ‘Wear Pyjamas to School Day’ to support mental health and Red Nose Day
- Drawing up playtime rules to ensure everybody has a safe and happy time
- Successfully campaigning for playground equipment for break times
- The provision of playtime rotas
Well done to our School Council; they listen to their peers and represent them superbly!
Community outreach
Our sense of community and developing the children's understanding of their part and the impact they can have in our community is a key part of life at Oak Hill. When deciding on a charity to support the school council look at both national charities and local charities that could benefit.
Each year Harvest festival donations go to Winchcombe foodbank supporting a local foodbank, we support Children in Need and Red Nose day and children donate towards the Poppy Appeal annually too.
During 2025- 2026, we are supporting a number of different charities. Each class took the time to think about who they would like to help. Rowan class are supporting The Pied Piper appeal, Elm class are supporting Acorns Children's Hospice and Redwood are supporting Juvenile Arthritis Research (JAR). Throughout the year the children will be organising and holding their own events.
Children will decide the chosen charities they would like to support for 2026-2027 in the Autumn term. School council and the school ambassadors will then help organise, promote and run the fundraising events for these charities.
Ambassador roles
At Oak Hill, we believe in providing the children with opportunities to take on key roles and responsibilities to support our vision and values within school and the wider community.
We have developed our ambassador roles to support three key areas: Worship, Sports and School. These roles of for children who embody the schools vision and values and are a further opportunity for the children to Learn key skills such as organisation, Flourish in areas they are passionate in and Grow in confidence.
The children in year 5 and 6 are able to apply for one of the ambassador roles and these are then selected by the staff based on their applications.
Flourish Ambassador
Our Flourish Ambassadors work with Miss Attwood to organise whole school events. They will lead the school during church celebrations, write reports for LAB meetings and are the face of school during school events such as open days. The Flourish Ambassadors will also liaise with the School Council when organising school events.
Sports Ambassadors
Our Sports Ambassadors work with our P.E lead Mrs Partington and our go-to pupils for all things sport related. They lead the play leaders at break and lunch, have responsibility for all sports equipment. They will help support teachers prepare for P.E lessons, provide written reports for the newsletter of school sporting events and play a key role in sports day in the Summer Term.
Worship Ambassadors
Our Worship Ambassadors work along side Miss Attwood and have a key role in daily worship. They lead on welcoming the children to worship and through the prayer. Once a month they will lead the celebration worship and the Worship Ambassadors will work with School Ambassadors during church celebrations throughout the year and will lead on a monthly prayer club.
