Happy New Year! We're delighted to be back at school and have kicked off the term with a brilliant day of staff training to expand eveyone's understanding of our Thrive programme. As Mrs Edwards and Miss Attwood near the completion of their extended training we are looking forward to Thrive becoming fully embedded in all we do at Oak Hill. Don't forget our team now includes our registered therapy dog Cookie who has proven to be a valuable asset as part of our overall package to support the children's mental health and emotional wellbeing. We've got a book review from Bryony and a sports update from Corin this week plus we celebrate Henry's swimming achievements. The children have settled back into their classes well, sharing lots of exciting stories from their Christmas holidays before turning their attention to the new topics being studied this term. Check out the newsletter for a full update on each class' activities this week.

A cracking end of term as we were able to invite families to join us at Dumbleton Church for two performances of our Nativity - It's a Cracker! The children were all amazing and we are so proud of everyone. Thank you children for all the hard work to ensure the performances were a success and of course, extra thanks to our teachers especially Miss Tarling and Miss Gunter for masterminding a great performance! We hope you all have a wonderful, healthy and happy Christmas and New Year holiday with your loved ones.

Christmas has arrived at our school with a beautiful Christmas tree and intense preparations for our Nativity happening across the school. The sound of the children singing fills both sites and brings huge smiles to every member of the school staff. We are still on track to share the Nativity with you in person and are keeping a close eye on updates from the local authority and government. Other seasonal activities across the school include making, writing and sharing christmas cards, an enormous Turkey and some fabulous jewel coloured hats all as props for the Nativity. There has been casting, filming and tasting alongside some traditional tales including A Christmas Carol with a look too at modern interpretations of this Dickens classic from Kevin the Carrot.

The final weeks of term approach and we're working hard preparing for the Nativity performances. Fingers crossed we'll be able to share them with you all in person this year! We've seen magical writing stations and a potions lab in writing and maths lessons in our Reception class. Years 1 and 2 are producing some fabulous props and costumes for the nativity. Years 3 and 4 have had fun with our VIPERS reading scheme predicting what will happen next in their class reading book 'The Creakers' by Tom Fletcher and Years 5 and 6 have explored their topic in different areas of the curriculum as they've covered the Shang Dynasty in computing and history. End of term assessments to review the children's undertanding of this term's work have taken place and we're so proud of every pupil's positive approach. Well done everyone!
