RSE at Oak Hill C of E

At Oak Hill, our children learn to be healthy, independent and responsible members of society. Through our Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE) lessons, the children at our school understand how they develop both socially and personally. PSHE at Oak Hill tackles many moral, cultural and social issues faced whilst growing up, as well as teaching children their rights and responsibilities.  An important part of our PSHE curriculum is our Relationsips and Sex Education (RSE). We hope you find this page useful in understanding how RSE is delivered at Oak Hill CE School. If you require any further information, or have any questions regarding PSHE and RSE at Oak Hill, please feel free to get in touch with our PSHE lead, Miss Charlotte Tarling.

Our Christian Character

At Oak Hill C of E, we are committed to teaching RSE in a faith-sensitive and inclusive way. We follow the guidance set out by the Church of England Education office, where church schools must be committed to being welcoming and inclusive communities where all feel included, can learn and flourish, living out Jesus’s promise of ‘life in all its fullness (John 10;10), regardless of their family arrangements, beliefs or sexual or gender orientation. Please take a look at the document below to view our commitment to this, as well as the guidance set out by the Church of England.

Coram SCARF

At Oak Hill C of E Primary school, we use SCARF, a comprehensive scheme of work for PSHE and Wellbeing education. An overview of SCARF can be found in the document below.  It covers all of the DfE's new statutory requirements for Relationships Education and Health Education, including non-statutory Sex Education, and the PSHE Association’s Programme of Study’s recommended learning opportunities, as well as contributing to different subject areas in the National Curriculum.

Curriculum

We have chosen SCARF as our PSHE resource because the lessons build upon children’s prior learning; we have assessed the content and feel that it is relevant and sensitive to the needs of the children. There is planned progression across the SCARF scheme of work, so that children are increasingly and appropriately challenged as they move up through the school.  Please take a look at the documents below to view our overview of PHSE and the progression ladder of skills taught in each year group. Termly topic webs for each class will also remind you of the units being covered. We advise parents to view the resources in order to support them in carrying out their responsibilities relating to providing RSE at home. You can also request to see further samples of lesson resources from your class teacher. It is valuable for a child’s development to learn about its own families’ values in regards to relationships and sex alongside the information they receive at school.
